Who We Are - About the Research Team
The Sex, Safety and Security study was conducted by Chris Atchison from the Department of Sociology at the University of Victoria.

Mr. Atchison has been actively involved researching the sex buying community and working in a supportive capacity with sex work(er) researchers and outreach/support organizations since 1995. His work can be seen in a variety published theses, books and articles as well as through his participation on a number of sex industry committees and organizations in both Vancouver and Toronto over the past 18 years.


The research team working on the larger project was comprised of researchers from the University of Victoria, the University of British Columbia (UBC), Dalhousie University, University of California (Davis), and Concordia University.

We also collaborated with sex work(er) support and outrach groups, community partners/stakeholders, and scholars including the Sex Industry Working Strategic Action Group (SIWSAG), PACE Society, WISH, PEERS, The Pivot Legal Society, The BC Coalition of Experiential Workers (BCCEW), The West Coast Cooperative of Sex Industry Professionals, and the Vancouver Island Men''s Trauma Counselling Society.
